Zander Galerie presents a comprehensive exhibition of works by German artist Tata Ronkholz, dedicated exclusively to her iconic Trinkhallen series.
Between beginning her studies as part of the Becher-class in 1977 at the Art Academy Düsseldorf and stepping away from artistic photography for personal reasons in 1985, Ronkholz produced an impressively precise and consistent body of work. Her focus was on marginalized industrial buildings and small shop windows. Of the motifs she found primarily in Cologne, Düsseldorf and in the Ruhr area, the Trinkhallen series is certainly the most renowned. With the Kiosk culture being recognized as intangible cultural heritage, Ronkholz’s photographs capture a unique part of everyday life.
The artist herself commented: “I was neither interested in the social aspect nor in the design, but felt drawn to the everyday. I wanted to show the kiosk around the corner in all its amiableness.”
