Art Basel Unlimited: Robert Frank

For this year’s Art Basel Unlimited, Zander Galerie is delighted to present Robert Frank’s seminal work The Americans at Booth U68. Conceived to mark the 100th anniversary of Robert Frank in 2024, the presentation features the last available complete set of The Americans from the artist’s personal archive. The series of 84 photographs will be installed in its original sequence as arranged by Frank. The project for Art Basel Unlimited is realised by Zander Galerie and Pace Gallery in collaboration with the June Leaf and Robert Frank Foundation.

Our main presentation at Art Basel 2024 will feature a curated selection of works by Peter Alexander, Robert Adams, Lewis Baltz, Alighiero Boetti, Bernd & Hilla Becher, Victor Burgin, Mitch Epstein, Robert Frank, Tarrah Krajnak, Helen Levitt, Anthony McCall, Ed Ruscha and Thomas Struth at Booth C15.

Selected for this year’s Art Basel Spotlight, Piazza Sigmund Freud by Lewis Baltz, is one of the most important and rarely exhibited works of the late 1980s to 1990s from the color photographic series Generic Night Cities. It is an example of his critical reflection on the spaces of human civilization in photography that positions his photographic oeuvre in contemporary art and represents his exploration of new artistic languages from 1989 onwards.

As part of Art Basel Parcours, works by Joanna Piotrowska will be on show in Basel at Villiger Mode, Claraplatz 3. For her work Dreams Are The Facts From Which We Must Proceed, Piotrowska used photographic props to create almost surrealistic scenes in three empty shop windows in a closed department store. In lieu of the usual promises of the fashion and merchandise world, this work opens up an enraptured view of a different life. At the same time, through the site chosen, it reflects humanity’s ambivalent desires for communion with nature and, at the very same time, for material consumption.
