In her current body of work, Trinidadian-American artist Allana Clarke presents sculptural paintings that create a new and powerful visual language. Produced in an almost performative physical process using black hair bonding glue on linen, the works transcend the traditional boundaries between painting and sculpture. In a search for belonging and community, Clarke’s work constantly challenges viewers to rethink ideas of womanhood and Black diasporic identity.
