Zander Galerie is deeply saddened about the passing of Peter Downsbrough.
The work of the renowned conceptual artist Peter Downsbrough (1940, New Bunswick, N.J.) has had a major impact on the perception of art. Ranging from sculpture and books to photography, video, and film, Downsbrough’s oeuvre maintains a complex relationship with space and typography, while also drawing on the achievements of the early avant-garde and Minimal Art.
Downsbrough exhibited in institutions worldwide and his work can be found in main museum collections, including the Centre National d’Art et de Culture Georges Pompidou in Paris, FR; MACBA, Museu d’Art Contemporani in Barcelona, ES; Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in Geneva, CH; The Museum of Modern Art Library, New York, US; National Gallery of Canada Library, Ottawa, CA; Sammlung Marzona, Staatliche Kunstbibliothek zu Berlin, DE; The Getty Research Institute Research Library, Los Angeles, US; Muzeum Sztuki, Lodz, PL; Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten, Brussels, BE; The Tate Gallery Library, London, UK; and many more institutions.
Peter Downsbrough and Zander Galerie started collaborating in 2010 and his legacy is deeply felt within and beyond the gallery’s program.
