Lake Verea: Adorado Barragán

Casa de Mexico en España, Madrid, Spain

Adorado Barragán is an exhibition by the Mexican duo Lake Verea, a key voice in contemporary queer photography in Latin America.

The show brings together 12 photographs of Luis Barragán’s Casa Estudio—designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004—and is part of a larger project that intimately explores the spaces the architect designed for himself.

Taken between 2006 and 2013 using both analog and digital cameras, the C-prints are presented alongside two glass spheres, a recurring element in Barragán’s universe introduced by his collaborator Chucho Reyes. These spheres, which multiply perspectives, evoke an expanded and poetic gaze.
