Hall Art Foundation, Reading, VT, USA
The Hall Art Foundation is presenting an exhibition by the internationally acclaimed American artist Joel Sternfeld to be held in Reading, Vermont from 10 May – 30 November 2025. This show features approximately twenty of Sternfeld’s now-iconic large-scale color photographs from his celebrated American Prospects and Walking the High Line series, as well as his 2016 video work, London Bridge.
Joel Sternfeld, a pivotal figure in contemporary photography, is renowned for his large-format color images that explore the American landscape with depth, irony, and beauty. His groundbreaking series American Prospects (1987), born from a Guggenheim Fellowship, captures the intersection of human development and nature across the U.S., offering a nuanced, sometimes unsettling view of modern America. He continued this exploration with Walking the High Line, documenting New York’s abandoned elevated railway overtaken by wild vegetation, celebrating its raw, urban wilderness. His 2016 film London Bridge juxtaposes old-world romanticism with American kitsch at Lake Havasu, reflecting globalization’s surreal juxtapositions.
