Helen Levitt in: Seeing the time in colour

Centre Pompidou-Metz, France

For the exhibition almost 250 works by 50 photographers were brought together, offering a unique overview of the major technical challenges that have shaped the history of photography. The three sections of the exhibition tour are dedicated to the central questions that arose in the history of the reproduced image – in its early days, with the emergence of the snapshot, with which the discipline arrived in the “modern age”, and to its relationship to color, with which photographic practice experienced an unparalleled democratization.
