Currently Kunsthal Rotterdam is showing Helen Levitt: City at Play, a major retrospective celebrating one of the twentieth century’s most influential street photographers. Bringing together more than 220 photographs, film and color slides from the artist’s complete archive, the exhibition traces over five decades of Levitt’s remarkable career. Best known for her intimate, unscripted images of everyday life in New York City, Levitt transformed ordinary moments into enduring photographs marked by empathy, humor and an extraordinary sensitivity to the rhythms of the street.
