Deep Cuts: Block Printing Across Cultures examines the world’s oldest methods for producing multiple images. Featuring more than 150 works from Asia, Europe, and the Americas, the exhibition presents block printing both as a tool for artistic expression and as a technology of mass production that allowed images and ideas to circulate across vast distances.
Textiles, prints, and books showcase intricate patterns and striking visuals that trace the medium’s global history—from India’s patterned fabrics to the illustrated volumes of the Kelmscott Press, as well as modern experiments by German Expressionists and contemporary artists such as Christiane Baumgartner.
